History of The Bemus Bay Pops!

The Early Days of the Pops

The Bemus Bay Pops is a creation of Dan and Sue Dalpra, owners of the Italian Fisherman Restaurant in Bemus Point, NY.

They wanted to celebrate Labor Day by having the Bemus Bay Pops Orchestra perform a concert on the roof of the Italian Fisherman.

In 1998, the inaugural year of the event, we had great success as we attracted and estimated 4,000 people who gathered for the concert on the lawns, decks and water of the Bemus Bay.

The Pops performed a wonderfully diverse program featuring works from
Gershwin, Strauss, Sousa and The Beatles. Featured soloists included John Marcellus, Bruce Johnstone and Steve Swanson.

The Pops Today

Every year the Bemus Bay Pops
festival has grown. The 2002
festival attracted over 10,000
people attending the festivities
by land and sea.

The 2003 season was expanded and instead of just one major concert which took place on Labor Day, the Bemus Bay Pops summer concert series extended to several FREE performances almost every Sunday with the new addition of the Floating Stage. This included a historic appearance by over 100 musicians from the world-famous Chautauqua Institution .

In 2006 our events drew thousands of people once again to Bemus Point , NY . In 2007 and 2008, The Bemus bay Pops drew record crowds and entertained thousands in the Bemus Bay Area. They have become a musical tradition in Bemus Point attracting crowds from all ages and providing quality family musical entertainment!
